一個美國工程師在中囯

此《An American engineer in China》（一個美國工程師在中囯）是清末美國來華工程師 Wm.Barclay Parsons（柏生士）著。全書分為十一個章節，包含六十多幅插圖照片，記錄了作者在中國勘測粵漢鐵路時的見聞記錄。此英文本出版於1900年。

此書在國內出版的譯名是《西山落日》。

作者柏生士考察了鄂、湘、粵三省的地形、地質、鐵路、房舍及社會經濟、風土人情，對當時中國的商業貿易、財政狀況、建築、交通等都有所觀察和描述，特別是對當時中國最封閉的省份湖南有着重論述，並駁斥了「黃禍論」，預言20世紀的中國有光明的前途，「一定能夠再一次在世界大國之列占有一席之地」。（介紹參考）

William Barclay Parsons中文名叫柏生士，1859年出生於美國，1879年在Columbia College（哥倫比亞學院）獲學士學位，1882年在哥倫比亞煤礦學院（現哥大工程和應用科學學院）再獲學士學位。1898年，清政府駐美公使伍廷芳與美國美華合興公司簽訂《粵漢鐵路借款合同》。同年，身為美華合興公司總工程師的柏生士奉命來華測量粵漢鐵路地形。本書即為柏生士在華期間見聞。
